Stitched up Swaperama
Our workshop at is a fusion of the key elements of our sustainable collective:
Socialising – Collaborating – Sharing – Teaching – Clothing - Sustainability
Beginning with a bank of tables split in to sections with pairs of chairs facing each other speed-dating style. Each member will sit opposite someone they don’t know and have a minute each to talk about a particular item of clothing. Whether it be that it is sentimental to them, it’s the most comfortable/uncomfortable garment they own, they love/hate something about it or that they haven’t washed it for a while – whatever they feel is interesting about it!
After the two minutes is up a whistle will blow and background music will pause – this is the point that each person must swap or rearrange their clothing in some way. A scarf can become a belt, a skirt a top, its up to the entrants how creative and sharing they want to be. Everyone on one side of the table then moves one space to the left and the two minutes start again.
Our intension is to encourage participants to engage with the clothes they wear in a diverse and contemporary way. Discussing what we wear and why we wear it unlocks the uniqueness of what can be an everyday item of clothing. To challenge societies throw away culture by connecting our personal style with others.
